Canon 14-35mm f/4 L IS USM lens examples
Recently I was the first in Russia to shoot with the newest ultra wide angle lens from RF line - 14-35mm f / 4 L IS USM
Its advantages are obvious, light weight 540 grams, compactness only 10.5 cm long, stabilization, L series (no comments are necessary), RF advantages with an additional adjustable ring, and of course an ultra wide angle of 14mm in combination with a fairly long distance up to 35mm. I think this lens is perfect for those who travel, are interested in ultra-wide lenses and are scrupulous about the amount of equipments and weight they take.
The quality of the images obtained with this lens is excellent, 14mm has a small distortion for this size and a sharp focus. The lens can be fitted with 77mm threaded ND filters, which is very good, given the fact that for some ultra-wide lenses it is often necessary to buy additional holders and expensive gigantic filters up to 150mm.
An interesting feature is that the "trunk" of the lens moves "in an arc". At the beginning, by 14 mm, it completely leaves the hull, then about 23 mm, on the contrary, it enters the hull, and leaves again at 35 m. And at the highest point, the length of the lens increases by only about 1.5 cm. However, I would like to have a lock button so that it can be locked for transportation purposes in the most “pressed” state.
The lens hood for 14-35mm is removable and has a locking button, without pressing which you cannot remove or move it. This is good because the hood will be in one place all the time and will not move out.
At the time of testing in July 2021, RAW files when opened in Adobe Lightroom or Lithroom Classic have visible dark vignetting in the corners, due to the absence of an Adobe profile for this lens, however, in the DPP application from Canon the latest available version (4.14.0) this effect is not observed, so I recommend using it as a raw editor at least for now.
A conclusion. I really like this lens for its compactness and zoom range and I think many will find this in their arsenal soon.
